The EDDA Research Center hosts an international conference entitled Future of Democracy, which will be held May 20–21 2016 at the lecture hall of the National Museum of Iceland (Þjóðminjasafn). The two-day conference, which is part of a research project funded by The Joint Committee for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS), will be followed by a citizens meeting at the Reykjavík City Theatre (Borgarleikhúsið). The conference will deal with various perspectives of participatory and deliberative approaches, asking how and in what respect they can improve democracy and democratic choices. In addition, practitioners, activists and researchers will present actual democratic experiments for discussion, both focused on Icelandic cases and on experiments from around the world. The aim is to have a useful critical discussion of innovative projects and exercises.
