EDDA, in cooperation with the High North Center at the Business School at North University in Bodø, Norway is organizing an international conference entitled “Maritime Emergency Management and Transnational Cooperation in the High North”. The conference, which is a part of the “Maritime Preparedness and International Partnership in the High North” (MARPART) project will take place 25 February, 2016 at the lecture hall at the National Museum of Iceland in Reykjavík.
The program will focus on safety and security in the Arctic as well as on cross-institutional and transnational cooperation between Norway, Russia, Iceland and Denmark/Greenland in the fields of maritime preparedness and search and rescue. Special emphasis will be on maritime disasters and large-scale incidents; commercial activities and environmental risks; maritime hazards and responses; and post-emergency operational management issues, such as state versus corporate interests, international norms and legal regimes, and responsibilities of security actors.
