Rolf Tamnes

Rolf Tamnes, Senior Researcher and Adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo Department of History.


Tamnes is an expert on Norwegian security, defence, and foreign policy; the High North; and U.S.-European Relations. His publications include works on the History of Norwegian Defence and Norway‘s security policy after the end of the Cold War, and the strategic importance of the High North. He is in charge of the the GeoPolitics in the High North research programme, a programme run by the  the Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies with funding from the Research Council. Its aim is to develop new knowledge about actors and their interests in the High North and is made up of a core group of Norwegian and international partners and supplemented by associated institutions and associated individuals.
